Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Soybean Oil Sludge Treatment
Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Soybean Oil Sludge Treatment
Description

The Three Phase Decanter Centrifuge for Soybean Oil Sludge Treatment continuously separates recoverable soybean oil, aqueous liquid, and concentrated solids from conditioned oil sludge.

It is suitable for crude soybean oil settling residues, degumming sludge, refinery tank bottoms, wash-water sludge, meal fines, gums, and filter residues. The recovered oil can be sent to polishing filtration or further refining.

Typical Applications
  • Crude soybean oil tank-bottom sludge
  • Water-degumming sludge treatment
  • Acid-degumming residue separation
  • Soybean meal fines recovery
  • Refinery wash-water pretreatment
  • Oil recovery from gum-rich sludge
  • Filter-aid and sediment removal
  • Soapstock-containing sludge treatment
  • Oily wastewater volume reduction
  • Pretreatment before oil polishing

Soybean Oil Sludge Challenges

Phospholipid-Rich Gums

Soybean oil sludge may contain hydrated or non-hydrated phospholipids that form viscous, sticky gums.

Stable temperature, mixing, and controlled feed conditions help maintain continuous separation.

Stable Oil-Water Emulsion

Proteins, gums, soap, and fine solids may stabilize the oil-water interface.

pH adjustment, heating, or suitable conditioning may be required before centrifugation.

Fine Meal and Husk Particles

Meal fines, husk particles, rust, and filter aid can increase solids loading.

Screening and an agitated buffer tank help prevent blockages and feed fluctuations.

Soapstock and Free Fatty Acids

Neutralization residues may contain soap, free fatty acids, oil, water, and suspended solids.

The actual composition should be tested because stable soap emulsions may require additional treatment.

Food-Grade Processing

Product-contact materials, seals, surface finish, and cleaning design should meet edible-oil processing requirements.

How the Decanter Centrifuge Works

1. Conditioned Sludge Feeding

Screened and conditioned soybean oil sludge enters the rotating bowl.

Agitation maintains uniform temperature and keeps gums and solids suspended.

2. Solids Sedimentation

Centrifugal force moves meal fines, filter aid, gums, and dense impurities toward the bowl wall.

A concentrated outer solids layer forms.

3. Oil-Water Separation

The lighter soybean oil remains closer to the bowl center.

The heavier aqueous phase forms a separate outer liquid layer.

4. Continuous Solids Conveying

The screw conveyor transports settled solids toward the conical discharge end.

Concentrated sludge is discharged continuously.

5. Three-Phase Discharge

Recovered oil and aqueous liquid leave through separate outlets.

The concentrated solids discharge continuously for further treatment or disposal.

Main Advantages

Recovery of Valuable Soybean Oil

Reduces oil loss from degumming sludge, tank residues, and refinery waste.

Gum and Fine-Solids Separation

Removes phospholipid gums, meal fines, filter aid, and suspended impurities.

Continuous Three-Phase Operation

Produces separate oil, aqueous liquid, and concentrated solids streams.

Reduced Sludge Volume

Lowers the load on filtration, wastewater treatment, and final disposal.

Food-Grade Configuration

Sanitary materials, polished surfaces, and CIP options support edible-oil processing.

What Data Is Needed for Selection?

Please provide:

  • Oil, water, and solids percentages
  • Gum and soap content
  • Temperature and viscosity
  • Required feed capacity
  • Oil-quality target
  • Downstream refining process

FAQ

Can the centrifuge treat soybean oil degumming sludge?

Yes. Performance depends on gum concentration, water ratio, viscosity, temperature, and emulsion stability.

Can recovered oil return directly to refining?

Possibly. Moisture, phosphorus, soap, solids, and free fatty acids should be tested before further refining.

Can it separate soapstock-containing sludge?

Yes, after feed evaluation. Soap-rich emulsions may require heating, acidulation, or other conditioning.

Is heating required before separation?

It is often helpful for viscous or gum-rich sludge. The temperature should remain within the oil-quality requirements.

How are meal fines and filter aid removed?

Dense particles settle against the bowl wall and are continuously conveyed to the solids outlet.
